Mission Statement

For the evenings of June 29th & 30th, the organizations of CREAT & IDEA ATL invite the theatres of Atlanta to truly hear the BIPOC artists of our community.

As we watch the civil unrest across our country calling for equal treatment for Black and Brown people, we demand that same equitable treatment in our city’s own theatre community. We demand your attention as we put our vulnerabilities on full display, tell our truths about our experiences at your theaters, and insist on change.  We demand your attention as we reveal our exposures to bias and racist practices in this specific arts community to which we have devoted our lives. We want these listening sessions to begin the process of true change and bring about a theatre community that is truly representative of its ideal as an industry built on diversity, empathy, and acceptance.

For too long we artists were forced to stay silent due to fear of retaliation. But the very survival of our industry now requires that we speak up. For your part, we ask that you not see this as simply a moment, but rather a new standard moving forward. You are asked to leave all egos, defensive responses and sense  of achievement based on past accomplishments out of this space and give your respect to the voices you will hear.

This is where we start a new life for Atlanta theatre.
